Is It Wrong To Tell A Coworker They Are Overweight Due To Their Diet?

BrandonRHarvey@gmail.com By Brandon Harvey 2025
On Reddit, someone asked if they are an asshole for telling her coworker that she was overweight due to her diet. Apparently, they are both overweight and now the person that made the post is confused because half her coworkers say that is wrong to say to someone and the other half say she’s totally right.
In my opinion, as someone that’s been obese before, is that the OP is an asshole. This is due to the fact that the OP was bragging about working out just a tiny bit and then had such a big ego that she thought she could speak on how poorly someone else eats. I find it rich that this person is likely still overweight, too, saying she’s lifting cans of beans and that’s about it.
I’m not saying that lifting whatever you can isn’t good I’m just saying it’s not an excuse to think you’re healthy suddenly. People that are overweight are not stupid, they know they have an eating disorder and they also know when people are not taking them seriously over just the way you look in many cases.

Look @ this TEN dollar 4XL shirt currently on sale. I checked, and it goes up to 5XL without making the price go up! Talk about an insane deal for a decent quality shirt, I will probably grab one too. Click this text or the image to check it out on Amazon.

As a man that has stood out his entire life, I’d say it took until age 35 or so to really quit caring if I was cool to other people or not. Once you see that some are still in their high school phases all the way up to their 40s then you really start to reconsider giving a shit about their feedback. There are people out there, every day, that do stuff like gossip like they’re 12 and think they are superior to whoever they’re wasting their time talking about.
Embracing yourself is never easy, especially when your experiences are people putting you down or at least treating you like you’re from a different planet. I think it all starts with the voice in your own head. If that voice is telling you all kinds of terrible things about yourself, you start to really believe them over time. I will recommend a book I was reading called “UNFU*K YOURSELF — Get out of your head and into your life” by Gary John Bishop that covers this pretty well if you’d like actual expert’s advice on the matter.
I am glad to see that the commenters in the Reddit post I linked to in the start were not really happy with the OP in this instance. It would seem most of them understand why it was ridiculously mean to start talking crap on a coworker’s diet and activity levels. If the problem perceived as laziness is really an issue, you can take the coworker aside and ask first for her to pick up the pace or you’ll have to take it up the chain but at least do it one on one.
What do you think? If this is posted to a group that’s not my own, I cannot always control bullying comments so be aware of that if you’re sensitive to that.

That is wrong, whether the person has problems with work or not I think that’s unfair to do especially in front of a coworker if that’s what hapepned

I think all fat people know why they are fat. (I use the word “fat” as a discriptor – not an insult. BTW, I’m very fat). They don’t need others to tell them so. It is not OK for anyone to comment on a person’s appearance so I think the OP was wrong to say something like that to the co-worker.
