I have been in therapy with Merri Seegrist since she stopped working at Coos Health and Wellness to do her own thing. She hasn’t had to cancel more than like two times, once for another person’s emergency or something and she also has kids and as all parents know you don’t really get to decide when kids are sick or whatever.
She has helped me work on my PTSD problems and sometimes she gives me the best advice but it’s the most simple too. Like do the opposite of what the person you don’t like would’ve done. I tell my wife that because I don’t have parents, this is kind of like me talking to them and actually having a parent that gives a shit whether I’m doing well or not.
Counseling in Coos Bay is a bit hit or miss really. The main problem with our area is that professionals start taking it all in and then they run away. Merri’s been here for a while though and she also doesn’t live in the Coos Bay area more or less she stays in Bandon.
One thing that’s nice about having her as a therapist is that she has had experiences that make her able to relate to me a lot. The last therapist I had wasn’t bad, but like I said they run off or they try to convince me to take so many meds I’m a robot. I don’t feel that is the goal of the team I have now for mental health meds and therapy.
If you have anxiety and want to go to therapy, telehealth is the way to do it. All you haver to do is get Zoom, install it on your phone or PC, and then just sign up with Merri since she can send you a link. Once you click on the link and test out your mic and headphones/speakers, that’s about all you have to deal with in terms of technology.
All in all I have done tons of therapy in my life and I really am glad we have a solid option around here. I thought for sure she’d move like the rest of ’em, but it seems that she may be here for a while still.
Also, to tie this in with being big and tall for the blog, I want to say that many don’t realize just how easy it is for someone that stands out from the crowd to feel like a total alien. I believe I am on the autism spectrum, too, but in terms of being tall I was also a nerdy kid so I got bullied a lot and still do get picked on by adults so I think it’s wise for me to be in therapy and I also think it’d be wise for those guys to take their lifted trucks over to the Coos Health and Wellness building or to email Merri through Contact – Evertide Counseling. Guarantee chicks would find that more impressive than whatever it is you call what you are doing..
