Being Big And Tall In A World That’s Small

Woman Asked If She Plays Basketball — Is The Asker An A-Hole?

Down The Way - Brandon Harvey 2025
I found an interesting discussion online here that has commenters ranting at the poster for asking a stranger if she played basketball. He walked up to her and asked about it. After giving him a death stare she replied it was rude to ask that. He now is curious if he’s an asshole basically.
In my opinion, it’s refreshing to see that the commenters are on the side of the tall woman. One person says something about imagine how much they get asked that and I was like exactly. We get asked about basketball constantly and it reminds me of when people learn I’m from Kansas and all they got is a stale Wizard of Oz reference.
I really think it’s rude to ask someone, that’s obviously not dressed like they enjoy basketball with fan stuff on or something, asks if you play basketball because if you flip the roles and you were to say hey do you play mini golf it would be rude too. “What’s mini golf” they’d reply, only for you to be like “oh, you’re so short I thought you liked mini golf.”
Being rude isn’t always on purpose, and trust me big and tall people get that. We are used to sideways jokes happening, like slips of the tongue that weren’t meant for being mean it was just something that happened. It’s kind of like these NPCs in games, that are programmed with one fun fact about the subject of the mission or whatever and it’s a stale basketball joke or some bullshit about whatever weather they can see from their dead eyed staring out the window of their job.

Speaking of shopping, just thought I’d share something I bought recently online that I loved and that’s this energy drink. Monster Reign Orange Dreamsicle is what the flavor is and the reason I like it as a bigger person is that it has 300mg of caffeine. So for the price , it’s the same as other Monsters generally it just is more mgs of caffeine which I need because I’m sure all you other big and tall people know it’s hard af to get anything to work right in doses that are too small.

Another thing about being big and tall is that you get used to being treated like you’re different pretty early on so it’s a lot easier to be yourself. Once you get around the fact that you’ll have haters, especially since many don’t age past high school for whatever reason, you can quit caring so much. In fact, using them like a barometer for how well things are going is useful as they only grow in number them more successful and happy you are.
I hope everyone out there has had a good start to the week so far. For me, so far I have. Lots of work to be done.
